In this post we will talk about some of the things that cause poor airflow throughout your home and HVAC system.
Most of these issues are entirely preventable or easily fixed.
1. Blocked heating and air vents
Have you checked to see that all of your vents are open and that airflow is consistent coming out of them?
2. Leaks in your ductwork
Sometimes ductwork can become detached or deteriorate over time, causing leaks. This can hurt your system airflow.
3. Build-up on condenser unit
Your condenser unit should be cleaned 1-2 times per year. Debris and yard waste can hinder performance, or even lead to system failure.
4. Filter is dirty and needs changed
Are you changing your filter regularly? We recommend once per month for disposable filters. You should also be cleaning a reusable filter on a regular basis.
5. Blockage in ducts
Sometimes there’s objects blocking airflow in your ducts. These items can range from children’s toys, to bird nesting materials, to rodents.
6. Build-up on blower fans
Blower fans can get dirt and grime build-up over time. This slows down the fan and puts undue stress on the motor as well.
7. Dirty condenser coils
Your condenser coils should also be cleaned 1-2 times per year. This goes hand-in-hand with build-up on your condenser coils.
8. Refrigerant levels are too low
Low refrigerant levels can contribute to poor airflow since the unit cannot properly cool the air.
9. Improperly sized HVAC equipment
If the system in your home isn’t right for the space, you’ll experience airflow issues. A system that isn’t the correct size will also shorten the lifespan of your HVAC system.
10. HVAC design needs updated
If you’ve done renovations or had construction done (such as a major roof leak fixed), it’s possible that your ductwork design needs some attention. Contact your trusted HVAC service provider and see if they can make any recommendations for you.
