Here’s the big reveal on how this happens… Set your thermostat to no higher than 66 degrees. You’re probably wondering HOW this all works. Well as you probably already know, we’re here to help, so we will tell you how it works. Having a lower home temperature will help you burn calories. In the short version of this story, it’s because your body works harder to keep warm. You probably want the long version of this science lesson, though, don’t you? Our bodies have different kinds of body fat. Two of those are referred to as “brown fat” and “white fat”. White fat is what we get from eating too much junk food and not exercising. It’s good for insulation, but let’s face it, some people want less insulation.
Brown fat is very similar to muscle tissue. It has the right kind of mitochondria to help us break down carbohydrates. When needed, it also helps keep you warm by burning white fat. At this point you’d like to know how to increase your brown fat. Well there are several ways you can do this. We’ll start with the ways you’re probably already used to hearing. Eat right and exercise. However you want to know how lowering your thermostat can help you burn white fat. Having a lower home temperature helps activate your brown fat to start burning the white fat- to help you keep warm. Please keep in mind you only need to drop the thermostat by a couple of degrees.
