winter safety tips

Winter is rolling in and it’s time to start preparing for frigid temperatures.

Extreme cold winter temps are hard to deal with on their own… however when our safety is concerned it is extra risky. Consider these things when trying to stay safe and warm during icy winter days:

-Make sure you are always giving space heaters suggested clearance from flammable objects- usually a minimum of 3 feet

-Test and change the batteries when needed in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

-Check on your elderly neighbors to make sure they are warm enough and have food and water. If you’re able to assist, ask if they need help clearing their sidewalks and driveways. -Don’t forget to take breaks and be smart when it comes to shoveling. Push snow and never pick up and throw if it can be avoided. This is where most injuries occur. And it’s not unreasonable to stretch beforehand! -Dress in multiple layers if you have to be outside. -NEVER OPERATE A GAS-POWERED GENERATOR INSIDE YOUR HOME OR GARAGE. People have died from carbon monoxide poisoning because of this unfortunate error. -Schedule your fireplace, chimney, and furnace be inspected and cleaned at least once per year. -DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SERVICE A GAS FURNACE YOURSELF.
