During the winter months, we spend the majority of our time indoors. We want to be warm and comfortable, don’t we?
Well you might be surprised to learn that the air quality indoors is often worse than it is outdoors! Especially in the winter months, we are recirculating a lot of the pollutants and allergens inside of our homes. Like we have mentioned many times before, it’s important to change your furnace filter regularly.
At a minimum you should be changing it four times per year- at the beginning of every season. However, we recommend for your filter to be changed at least once per month. This helps your system capture pollutants and allergens that are floating around in your air.
It’s extremely important to change your furnace filter once per month especially if you have pets. Additionally, people who suffer from allergies or compromised immune systems (such as the elderly or children) also benefit from a filter that is changed regularly. To help keep track of when you need to change your filter, set a reminder for yourself on your phone or write it in on your calendar. It’s also important to be mindful of your ductwork. Don’t forget that all of the air circulated within your home travels through your ductwork. We have seen and cleaned all kinds of unimaginable things from home duct work…. imagine dead animals, feces, and mold!! That’s just the tip of the iceberg… Consider having duct cleaning performed by professionals. During the winter months, it is especially important to think about things such as cleaners and air fresheners. The chemicals found in these things are in the air you breathe! Be mindful of the kinds of things you are bringing into your home. We also recommend cleaning fans and other hard to reach areas as part of your Fall cleaning checklist. The dust and pollutants that sit on these surfaces will be circulated throughout your air.
