Our home’s HVAC systems are designed to be dependable for many years. However there are three main factors that cause customers to experience issues with their heat.
If your system is not maintenanced regularly, this can contribute to even more problems over the years. Eventually a neglected system will fail long before it has to due to poor upkeep.
While there are a variety of issues that can cause issues with your home heating, these are the three we experience most often.
1. Filtration Obstruction
Do you change your filter regularly? Not changing the filter is one of the main causes of heat issues among our customers.
Your system intakes air through the filter that will cycle back out through your home. This filter is responsible for keeping things like pet dander, dust, and other particles from being sucked into the system or cycled back out into your ducts.
When you neglect to change your filter, it causes a buildup of particles in the filter that will cause your system to work harder to suck in the air needed to run properly.
A dirty filter restricts airflow and shortens the lifespan of your system.
Furthermore, something as simple as a clogged filter can cause your system to seemingly fail, making it seem like your furnace went out. In reality, you just need to change your filter more regularly. Check that your filter has been changed prior to calling for heating repair service!
2. Mechanical Failure
This seems like a no-brainer, but believe it or not, a lot of mechanical failures could have been prevented with regular system maintenance.
Manufacturers recommend regular maintenance on your HVAC equipment to keep them running properly and efficiently. A reputable heating and cooling company will thoroughly clean, inspect, and test your equipment twice per year.
These inspections should identify little problems before they become big issues- and cost you more money to fix.
3. Issues With Your Thermostat
A lot of heating issues stem from problems with a thermostat. This can range from low battery, to inadvertent re-programming, to needing a replacement.
We recommend for you to check that your thermostat is functioning properly before calling an HVAC service company. Newer thermostats will let you know if the batteries need replaced.
If you don’t have a programmable thermostat, consider getting one installed to save yourself some money on your utility costs.
