There are lots of stories out there we hear often from our customers. We want to take this opportunity to “clear the air” and let you know three things that you need to stop believing right now!
1. The best way to control temperature in your home is by adjusting your thermostat.
It’s true that in reality, the thermostat directly controls the temperature SETTINGS on your HVAC system. If you have to constantly adjust your thermostat to get your home to the right temperature, chances are things are not working properly. When your home is constantly hot and you keep turning down the thermostat because the temperature doesn’t go down, that means that you need service on your system and you need it fast. On the contrary, if your home is too cold and you keep having to turn the thermostat up, that means something is wrong.
A system that is working properly should rarely have issues reaching your desired temperature. (The only exceptions to this tend to be extreme weather conditions or power failure). In addition to your thermostat, there are features of your system that should be working together to ensure you rarely have to adjust that dial. Issues often stem from duct work leaks, improperly sized equipment, poor ventilation, and equipment in need of maintenance or professional service. Regular maintenance ensures that your HVAC system is operating properly and our techs communicate with you on things that might become issues later if not properly addressed. Poor humidity is also a major factor in your temperature control issues.
Overall – if you’re constantly turning the thermostat up or down, you need some guidance on getting your equipment back on track.
2. You should get the biggest HVAC system possible for your home.
Bigger is not always better – especially when it comes to heating and cooling. A reputable company will always perform a Manual-J Calculation to tell you the perfectly sized unit for your home. Why should a 1,500 square foot ranch home with no basement need the same HVAC system as a 2,900 square foot home with three levels? It doesn’t.
This is why proper training and a commitment to continuing education is important when you choose an HVAC company. We invest in our employees so that we can be sure they provide the best service possible for our customers. Keeping our staff and techs up to date on their training is one of the most important factors to being sure they are ready to give our customers their best service. This is why we are the top-rated HVAC company in our area with certifications from NATE and ACCA – who set the industry standards for excellence in the heating and cooling service industry.
3. You don’t need to call your HVAC company unless you need something fixed.
This couldn’t be further from the truth. Simply put, more frequent, less-expensive maintenance visits cost much less than major repairs or replacement of your HVAC equipment.
With your car, you go for regular oil changes and check-ups. It is no different for your HVAC system. Our maintenance visits test, inspect, and clean your equipment to ensure we can identify any small problems before they become major issues. Would you rather pay $50 for an oil change or $3000+ for a new engine? Likewise, would you rather pay $129 for a seasonal maintenance visit, or $500+ for an emergency service call when your system fails in the middle of a heat wave? Or worse – what if the repairs are so expensive that it makes more sense to just replace the whole thing?
There are lots of benefits to having regular maintenance done on your system, including keeping the manufacturer’s warranty intact, improving system efficiency, lowering your utility bills, extending the lifespan of your equipment, and more.
